What is “Flex”?
There is a feature in the operation of mechanical keyboards called “flex” or “plate flex”. Basically, it’s level of flex that you feel as you type, and there are several different ways of increasing or decreasing “flex”. One of them: exactly increasing the mobility of the PCB board or switchboard inside the keyboard case.

Users have different views on the “flex” effect, as it all depends on each gamer’s preference. Some prefer high kickback, while others prefer low or no kickback.

During the development of the GMMK Pro keyboard, engineers focused more on making the keys faster and more responsive. The Flex effect was not a priority. Based on community feedback, many gamers were advised to either reduce the Flex key as much as possible or remove it completely. The new keyboard at the time had slight vibration and a dull thud when the keys were pressed.

However, sometime after GMMK Pro release the situation changed, and many users wrote more and more feedback requesting more “Flex” in the next versions. Therefore, Glorious engineers came up with an unconventional solution to the problem and the company presented the GMMK PRO FlexKit.

Glorious GMMK PRO FlexKit

It helps amplify the acoustics and vibration of the GMMK Pro keyboard that gamers have been missing, with additional components and modifications. The GMMK Pro FlexKit, unveiled at Glorious’ latest launch, allows every gamer to visibly change the way each key is pressed and customize the device to suit their preferences.

FlexKit helps to increase the ‘Flex’ effect and increase vibration and feedback, for example when typing on the GMMK Pro. And you can get all that with an optional keyboard upgrade. Incidentally, in the early days after its creation, the kit was hidden from the general public. First, it was tested and positively evaluated by experienced users from the Glorious Guild community, and only then the FlexKit was announced.

The new kit includes the GMMK Pro bottom plate, which is different from the original, as well as three spacers of different materials, two types of foam inserts for the bottom plate, and a solid foam spacer for the PCB board. And yes, after installing and using all of the above, your keyboard is sure to perform differently, with a more tangible “Flex” effect.

More about the kit components

As mentioned above, the Glorious GMMK Pro FlexKit includes a redesigned bottom plate that comes in three colors, including E-White, and will move more freely inside the device. This will enhance acoustics during typing. The engineers have also halved the number of fixing screws – there are now 4 instead of 8. So it will be easier to assemble the keyboard after the upgrade.

There are also three pads in the set made of different materials: Glorious G-Foam, EPDM, and PORON. Each has its own unique characteristics, but they all have in common that the pads significantly increase sound and feel when playing or typing.

Features of each material:
– G-Foam. Has a medium density which enhances “Flex” and maintains good key responsiveness.
– EPDM. With its high density, the pad of this material enhances the tactile feel and maintains the standard typing sound.
– PORON. Characterized by softness, it increases typing comfort and reduces noise.

Another important part of the set is two different types of foam inserts for the bottom plate. The first, 1mm thick, increase the mobility of the PCB board and reduces noise isolation. The second one, already 2 mm thick, has the opposite effect. It increases the noise insulation and reduces the movement of the board.

And the final component in the GMMK Pro FlexKit is the massive foam insert for the PCB plate. Here are its main features:
– Absorbs the resonance that emanates from the keyboard body during printing, keeping in mind the flexibility of the device.
– Enhances the glow effect of the backlight, especially when paired with the polycarbonate board.

Notice: The length and width of the spacers do not match the original bottom plate in the GMMK Pro. Therefore, the developers have added another version of this plate with modified dimensions.
